Apex Legends is hot. So hot that it hit 25 million players in a week, which is faster than both PUBG and Fortnite in their respective launch windows. It’s so popular in fact that Respawn’s other Titanfall game, Titanfall 2, has also seen a bump in players.
A week after Respawn announced it hit 10 million players and a million concurrent players, Respawn doubled that by announcing 25 million players with « well over » 2 million concurrent players. Respawn CEO Vince Zampella celebrated by posting a sizzle reel of various Twitch streamers playing Apex Legends.
For context, Fortnite took two weeks before hitting 10 million players, and a month and half before hitting 20 million. Meanwhile, PUBG’s peak concurrent players is sitting around 3.5 million, a number Apex Legends is gaining on. EA’s stock, which was down before its recent financial briefing, rebounded on the news of Apex Legends’ success.
It’s to the point where even Titanfall 2, which came out in 2016, saw a bump in players to 10,000 concurrents. A figure Titanfall 2 hadn’t hit since 2017.
To celebrate, Respawn announced some new events for Apex Legends. First there’s the prerequisite esports tournament sponsored by Twitch. It will take place on February 12 and February 19 for the biggest Twitch streamers. There’s also a limited-time Valentine’s Day themed event with romantic loot. This is the first limited-time event for Apex Legends, but expect more when the first season kicks off in March. There’s also a rumored solo and duo modes incoming.
