Beast Units Claw Their Way into Fire Emblem Heroes

Roar, son. Beast-type units were added to Fire Emblem Heroes in the latest update (3.10). These wild heroes can shift between their human and animal forms, which automatically makes them the coolest addition to Fire Emblem Heroes in some time.

Though several Beast races (also called « Laguz ») populate the Fire Emblem universe, this update only contains a handful of familiar faces. You can draw Tibarn (a hawk king from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance), Leanne (a heron from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance), Reyson (a heron from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance), and Nailah (a wolf from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn).

When Beast-type heroes are next to humanoid heroes, they retain their human forms. When they’re not adjacent to a friend, however, they morph into their Beast Mode and enjoy stat boosts.

I won’t be wholly happy with the arrival of the Laguz until we receive the rabbity Taguel race from Fire Emblem Awakening. Nevertheless, I opened Fire Emblem Heroes and pumped orbs into its soul-crushing Summoning / Gashapon system. I wanted to net at least one Laguz, primarily Nailah. I have an affinity for wild wolf girls, probably because I desperately wanted to be one when I was eight.

I haven’t had a chance to play with my new toy, but it might not matter: I’m still working through years of backed-up story content. If you listen to Axe of the Blood God—and if you don’t, I’m very ashamed of you—then you probably already know Kat is our resident Fire Emblem Heroes metagame expert. Kat also looked back recently at the Fire Emblem Game Boy Advance game that kicked off a huge fandom in North America. The franchise is still going strong, too. Look for Fire Emblem: Three Houses on the Switch later this year.
