Fortnite Switch – How to Get Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch, Fortnite Switch Cross-Play

Fortnite on Switch is now finally out in the wild, after being teased a few times by leaks and data mines of the Nintendo eShop. In this Fortnite Switch guide, we’ll be running down everything you need to know about the brand new version of the hit game, including how to get Fortnite on Switch, as well as all the details you need to know about Fortnite Switch cross play.

Nintendo are far from the only major presence at this year’s E3 in LA, which is ongoing right now. Head over to full E3 2018 schedule hub, where we’ve outlined all the major announcements and and news to come out of every presentation so far, including Sony, Microsoft, Ubisoft, and others.

Fortnite on Nintendo Switch Leaks

Previously, Fortnite on Switch was a known possibility thanks to several leaks via the Nintendo eShop. Earlier this month, Fortnite assets were uncovered on the Nintendo eShop, pointing to there being a port of the game at least in development.

Later on, a data mine of the Nintendo eShop uncovered some text relating to Fortnite. This time however, the data mine pointed to a release date, with June 12 being mentioned as a release date for Fortnite on Switch. That’s today, on the same day that Nintendo’s E3 2018 presentation takes place.

Fortnite Switch Release Date

Taking the above information into account, it certainly looked as though Fortnite was going to be announced and released on the Nintendo Switch on the same day as the Nintendo E3 2018 presentation. And released then it was, as Fortnite is now available to play on the go!

If you’re brand new to Fortnite, you should know that there are two modes to the game: Battle Royale, and Save the World. The former is obviously the more popular one, while the latter serves as a PvE mode, where players band together to take on zombie and avert the threat of the encroaching storm.

It should be noted that while Fortnite itself is free to download on the Nintendo Switch, you’ll have to purchase the Save the World mode within the game. The Battle Royale mode is entirely free, and you can begin playing it straight away, but you’ll have to pay an upfront cost if you want to take on the Save the World mode with your friends.

Fortnite Switch Cross Play

If you’re booting up Fortnite Battle Royale for the very first time, then you’ll be prompted to sign into your Epic account, to link your previous progress to your new Switch save file. However this is only available for progress on PC and Xbox One, as you won’t be able to link your PS4 Epic account with your Fortnite Switch account.

On top of this, Fortnite Switch supports cross-play with both PC and Xbox One, but not PS4. This is unfortunate from Sony, and it shows they’re still unwilling to support cross-play in a big, meaningful way.

These are all the details you need to know about the Fortnite port to the Nintendo Switch. The news was far from the only noteworthy announcement at this year’s event in LA, and for a full recap on anything you might have missed from the past few days, head over to our full E3 news hub.
