Just as Fortnite lifted pinging from Apex Legends, Apex Legends too is lifting one of Fortnite’s most beloved qualities: it’s propensity to hint at upcoming content in the world itself. Earlier this week, rumors emerged of Apex Legends’ long-awaited battle pass dropping and season one officially kicking off. The end result, though, wasn’t what fans anticipated.
Respawn put out a statement urging people not to believe every datamine they see after potential characters leaked, and asked players to be patient with the launch of season one. Today, that patience is paying off, as players are uncovering bounce pads around the Market area of the map.
The bounce pads fling players into the air with ease; some think it has to do with the previously leaked character Octane, who also appeared in the leaked banner that accidentally went live on Origin for a fleeting moment earlier this week. The jump pad itself shoots you in one of three directions, depending on where you are facing. Could the jump pad be his ultimate ability? His active ability? Could it be a red herring?
Players started documenting their discoveries on social media and Reddit, in addition to stumbling on them in Twitch streams. On Reddit, one player even commented that Mirage’s decoys can use it, which alone sounds kind of amazing.
I think it definitely has something to do with the Borderlands-lookin’ dude. We still don’t know much about the battle pass, like if more than one new Champion is coming to the roster, or if it’ll be a roll out at a slower clip like Overwatch.
With these jump pads though, we do know that Apex Legends’ big debut season is probably closer than we think. Respawn previously teased it for March, and with two weeks left of the month, that’s practically no time at all! Here’s to me hoping it doesn’t drop next week, when I’ll be running around the Game Developers Conference.
