NBA 2K19, the next iteration of the 2K’s flagship basketball sim, is all set to arrive on consoles later this year, and we’ve got quite a few gameplay details about it. In this NBA 2K19 everything we know guide, we’ll be going over all the key information you need to know about the game, including the final NBA 2K19 release date, as recently announced by 2K after a retailer leak, as well as the NBA 2K19 cover star, who could be set to change teams just like the cover star of last year did.
But if you instead need help on the current iteration of the sports sim, you’ll want to head over to our NBA 2K18 tips guide. Here, you’ll find everything you need to know about mastering the basketball sim, including full player ratings, as well as a walkthrough to build the best MyTeam roster possible.
NBA 2K19 Release Date
Reddit detectives were on NBA 2K19’s case all the way back on June 5, when a retailer leak pointed towards a final release date for NBA 2K19. On the very same day as the leak, 2K revealed that the NBA 2K19 release date is September 7.
While also revealing NBA 2K19 for the very first time, 2K revealed LeBron James as the cover athlete for the special 20th Anniversary Edition, and not the standard edition of the game as was anticipated after the retailer leak. This special edition will set you back $99.99, but it’ll give you access to the game on September 7, four days before the release of the standard edition on September 11, as well as various additional bonuses which we’ll detail further down.
NBA 2K19 Cover Star
As you can see thanks to the retailer leak mentioned just above, we now know that LeBron James is the cover star for the latest iteration of the NBA 2K franchise. Whereas last year was LeBron’s former Cleveland teammate Kyrie Irving on the cover of NBA 2K18, this year it’s James’ turn on the cover, for NBA 2K19.
However while you might think that the 20th Anniversary Edition cover art might be reserved for someone more old school than LeBron, the current Cleveland star will be on the cover of this special edition. We don’t yet know who will grace the cover of the standard edition of NBA 2K19 however, or if LeBron will be on the cover of both.
But things could change between now and the release of NBA 2K19 in September, particularly with how Cleveland were swept by Golden State in the NBA Finals. If you remember back to last year, Kyrie Irving left Cleveland for Boston, and the cover of NBA 2K18 was changed accordingly. This could happen all over again, if LeBron decides he’s done in Cleveland for the second time.
NBA 2K19 20th Anniversary Edition
But what we do know for sure is that the $99.99 20th Anniversary Edition of NBA 2K19 will contain the following items:
- 100,000 virtual currency points.
- 50,000 MyTeam points.
- 20 MyTeam League Packs (delivered once per week).
- A Sapphire LeBron James MyTeam card.
- 10 MyTeam Heat Check packs (delivered once per week).
- Five LeBron-themed murals for MyCourt.
- A LeBron MyCourt design.
NBA 2K19 Gameplay
Right now, there’s no available gameplay, or even a trailer, for NBA 2K19. But all this could change in less than a week, with E3 2018 right around the corner. We nearly always get some form of gameplay or trailer during E3 week, which this year lasts from June 11 to June 14.
There’s been some specualtion that NBA 2K19 is going to introduce an all new shot meter. 2K gameplay producer Mike Wang recently tweeted out a poll, asking fans which shot meter from recent NBA 2K games were their favorite. While this could be a red herring, we’ll keep an eye out for any additional information.
Right now, this is all the concrete information we have on NBA 2K19. But just as we mentioned above, make sure to keep an eye on this guide, as we’ll be updating it with any further information that either leaks or comes straight from 2K themselves, especially during E3 2018.
