Tonight marked the airing of 2018 edition of The Game Awards, celebrating some of the biggest games of this year. This is the fifth entry of the show; we tune in each year to see who’s going to take home some awards, but also which games are going to be announced. Some of those titles have already leaked or announced, including Far Cry New Dawn, Below, and Ashen.

Sayonara Wild Hearts
The first game of the night was Sayonara Wild Hearts, a game from Simogo and Annapurna Interactive. This pop-based game looked like an music title based around masked biker gangs? It was definitely an Annapurna title, which shows how strong their brand already is.
Journey to the Savage Planet
This title is from Typhoon Studios, a new Montreal-based studio headed up by former Ubisoft creative director Alex Hutchinson (Far Cry 4, Assassin’s Creed 3). It’s an adventure game where the players takes on the role of an erstwhile employee of Kindred Aerospace, who is dropping you on an alien planet to figure out if the place is fit for humanity. (It’s probably not.) Journey to the Savage Planet is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2019.
The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe
Remember The Stanley Parable? From 2013? Well the developers at Galactic Cafe realized that the game never came out on consoles! This an updated version of The Stanley Parable with some brand-new content, including new endings and new choices. PC players will also get the update!
This title is from the small indie team at Fjrd Interactive. It’s a first-person title that looks to have the player as a lonely person in the wood. It’s coming to Steam Early Access in 2019.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order
In a surprise that no one expected, Marvel and Nintendo joined forces! A trailer that started with the Guardians of the Galaxy expanded to include other characters from the Marvel Universe, including Captain America, Hulk, Spider-Man, and Wolverine. The big bomb was that the game was Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and it’s going to be coming to Nintendo Switch exclusively in 2019. No developer was listed in the trailer, but a press release later revealed that the developer is Koei Tecmo/Team Ninja and Nintendo is handling the publishing duties.
Far Cry New Dawn
Following earlier leaks, Ubisoft revealed the next step in the Far Cry series, Far Cry New Dawn. Set directly after the ending of Far Cry 5, New Dawn picks up in a newly-revitalized post-apocalypse. It’s coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 15, 2019.
The next title is from Supergiant Games, the developers of Bastion and Transistor. The game, called Hades, looks very much like Transistor with a brand-new aesthetic and a roguelike gameplay loop. The title will be available in Early Access on the all-new Epic Games Store tonight.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey
We finally get to see what Assassin’s Creed creator Patrice Desilets has been up to with his new studio, Panache Digital Games. The title takes players from 4 million years in the past moving forward, playing the primates that eventually became humanity today. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is coming in 2019.
From new developer Midwinter is the survival shooter Scavengers. The title is planned as a multiplayer competitive title, featuring players trying to survive on a harsh alien planet. Playtesting for Scavengers will begin some time in 2019.
Dead by Daylight – Darkness Among Us
The 4v1 horror game is newing another new monster, though this one is distinctly human.
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled
There’s another Crash Bandicoot title getting that remaster treatment! Crash Team Racing is getting a whole new lease on life with Nitro-Fueled. The remaster is coming to PlayStation 4 on June 21, 2019.
The Outer Worlds
Obsidian Entertainment hit the stage with the single-player science-fiction RPG that will replace the Mass Effect-shaped hole in our hearts. Some of the original creators of Fallout are back with the Outer Worlds. The game looks to be first-person, like modern Fallout games, but from the folks who brought you Fallout: New Vegas; perfect timing given the situation surrounding Fallout 76. It’s coming in 2019 to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
The Last Campfire
From Hello Games comes a brand-new title called The Last Campfire. Join the journey of a lost ember who is trying to find its way home. This game comes from the folks behind the game LostWinds, who joined Hello Games recently.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds – Snow Map
Tonight onstage the team at PUBG Corp introduced the next addition to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The new 6×6 map is snow-covered as promised. It’s called Vikendi, and yes, you’ll be able to track your opponents by following their tracks in the snow. Vikendi will be available tonight on PC test servers, with a release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in January.
From ARK: Survival Evolved comes Atlas, an open-world survival massively multiplayer online game. A little bit of fantasy, and a little bit of pirate action, all in one place. It’s coming to PC on December 13 and the Xbox Game Preview program some time in 2019.
Speaking of surprises, Bioware came to tonight’s Game Awards ready to play. The developer showed off a teaser for the next Dragon Age title. Well they showed off a teaser for something with the hashtag #TheDreadWolfRises. Dragon Age nerds will know the Dread Wolf was Fen’Harel, one of the gods of the Dragon Age world, and it was heavily hinted at the end of Inquisition that Solas had the god sealed within his body. No release date or full title though.
From Annapurna Interactive and the developers of ABZU comes another very pretty game. The game is called The Pathless, featuring a young female warrior and her very cute hawk partner, hunting very scary creatures in a vast forest. It’s coming to the Epic Games Store and PlayStation 4 in 2019.
From Human Head Studios comes this indie roguelike online adventure, where players journey out to save the world. They’ll likely die, leaving their ancestors to follow up and do the world-saving. Survived By is available on Steam Early Access right now.
Stranger Things Season 3: The Game
There’s a Stranger Things game for the upcoming Season 3 of the Netflix series! It’s very 16-bit in aesthetic. It was developed by BonusXP, the folks behind Stranger Things: The Game and Hero Academy 2.
Mortal Kombat 11
Fans knew it was coming and when Ed Boon took to the stage at the Game Awards, he revealed the next Mortal Kombat. There’s a community reveal event coming January 17, with a full launch on April 23, 2019. According to the trailer, it’ll land on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
Psychonauts 2 is still coming folks! It’ll release on PC and consoles in 2019.
The partnership between Id Software and Avalanche Studios is almost ready to bear its mutated fruit. Bethesda Games Studios showed off a new trailer for Rage 2, giving fans the final release date of the upcoming open-world shooter. It’s coming May 14, 2019 to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate
What looked like an announcement of Persona 5 for PC or Nintendo Switch—we’re still waiting Atlus!—actually turned out to be the reveal of the first downloadable content release for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Joker from Persona 5 is the next character coming to the newly-released Smash! No release date for Joker was given.
